letter of support contents
Thank you for your email.
I entirely understand your concerns about the proposal to
build turbines at Broughton Lodge. I have already lodged an
objection to the plans with Allerdale Borough Council on the grounds
of the cumulative effect of so many wind turbines in the small area
between the National Park and the
The only way to stop the proposals from being successful is via the
planning process in which, unfortunately, I have no part to play.
The very best thing you can do is to ensure that as many
residents as possible write to the Council opposing the application
before the closing date which I believe is 18 February
– individual letters need to
be sent as a petition only counts as one piece of opposition.
Objections can also be made online at the Council’s website.
Local residents should also be encouraged to contact their
Allerdale Borough Councillors to express their views as it is
councillors who can vote on whether or not a planning application is
allowed. Your councillors are :
Councillor John Ardron –
john.ardron@allerdale.gov.uk
Councillor Eric Nicholson –
eric.nicholson@allerdale.gov.uk
I have previously written to Allerdale Borough Council about wind
farm planning applications and have been assured that the Council
will treat each proposal on its own merits and will not hesitate to
resist those proposals when they feel justified in doing so.
Should the proposal to build at Soddy Gap be turned down by the
Council, the developer could appeal to the Planning Inspectorate.
I contacted the Planning Inspectorate some time ago and was
assured that the views of local residents are important and will
always be taken into account by inspectors in considering planning
appeals. With regard to the cumulative effect of a large number of
similar turbines in an area is capable of being a material
consideration. Again, if
the proposal did go to appeal it is imperative that as many
residents as possible write to the Planning Inspectorate expressing
their views.
I hope that this is helpful to you.
If you feel I can help further, or if you would like to meet to
discuss this further, please let me know.
Yours sincerely
Tony Cunningham MP
